William and Harry ‘playing out the dynamic of parents Charles and Diana’, says expert

William and Harry are "playing out the dynamics of their parents" as one aligns more with Charles and the other with Diana, it has been claimed.

According to Anna Pasternak, author of 'The Real Wallis Simpson: A New History of the American Divorcee Who Became the Duchess of Windsor', Harry's personality mirrors more that of his mum while William is more like his dad.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, the author also said Harry and Meghan – who quit royal life last year – are "too electric" for the institution, making Prince William and wife Kate Middleton, 39, "seem dowdy, suburban, and rather dull".

Ms Pasternak spoke amid an ongoing rift between the once-close brothers, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge.

The two have been on frosty terms since Harry and Meghan's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they accused the royal family of racism.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are currently expecting their second child, also explosively claimed Meghan, 39, wasn't helped by The Firm when she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with the couple's first child, Archie, one.

Ms Pasternak said William and Harry appear to be "playing out the dynamic of their parents", as the former is more like his dad, the Prince of Wales, 72, while the latter is more like his mum.

"Harry tracks with Diana, a rebel spirit fuelled by fury at the tabloid press, blowing up the family's cone of silence in a blockbuster interview," she said.

"William is very aligned with his father in his sense of duty above emotion."

Her comments come after Harry came face-to-face with his family for the first time since the tell-all interview as he flew in from the US for his granddad Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday.

He is reported to have written a "deeply personal" note to Prince Charles "to try and set things straight" ahead of the service at Windsor Castle.

But the Prince of Wales remains “very hurt” by Harry’s decision to appear in the interview while the Duke of Edinburgh was seriously ill in hospital.

There have been reports of Harry meeting with his dad and brother, as well as his sister-in-law Kate, for a two-hour chat to "clear the air" after the funeral.

But others claim it was merely "small talk" as the family focussed on ensuring the Queen was supported as she grieved the loss of her beloved husband.

Harry isn't thought to have stuck around for long as he is understood to have flown back to the US as early as Monday to reunite with Meghan, who stayed at home after doctors advised her not to travel.

The couple are expected to give birth to a baby girl in the next month.
