Canoodling couples enjoying boisterous bonking sessions prompted at least 168 moans from neighbours last year.
According to The Sun, some authorities installed recording equipment to assess the level of lasciviousness.
Details revealed under a Freedom of Information request showed that one person complained to Warwick Council that their neighbours could be seen and heard love-making in their kitchen with the window open and the lights on.
Another said their life was blighted by the sounds of people engaged in energetic intercourse for more than two years.
In Wakefield, West Yorks, one person complained of a “loud sex noise with the bedroom window open so all the street can hear”.
Couples have been heard 'moaning, groaning and screaming' to the detriment of their neighbours
There was also a case of a headboard being banged against a wall repeatedly. Pendle Council, in Lancashire, had a complaint of “extremely loud moaning, groaning and screaming”.
In Hull, neighbours were reportedly going at it in a outdoor blow-up hot tub, causing a complaint, while Sutton Council, in south London, four cases included one where a neighbour said: “The couple have windows wide open.
"We are being woken up in the middle of the night/early in the morning. Basically, they are screaming when having sex.”
However, the number of cases is likely to be much higher as councils lump in noisy sexual shenanigans with other general noise complaints.
